GWALIOR: If the BJP comes back for a third term in Madhya Pradesh, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government will construct a temple for goddess Sita in Sri Lanka. The state BJP gathered for a three-day conclave here in Gwalior to plan and strategize its election campaign and management in the next five months. Speaking to a large gathering of the party's grassroots level conveners and polling booth managers on Saturday, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled his developmental blueprint for the next five years.
While Chouhan spoke elaborately on his plans for a green Madhya Pradesh'' and training 25 lakh youth as skilled professionals, he also mentioned the construction of a temple for goddess Sita through the Dayanand trust and in collaboration with the Sri Lankan government. Chouhan had proposed the project in September 2012 when Sri Lankan president Mahindra Rajapaksha came to Sanchi to inaugurate a University of Buddhist and Indic Studies.
It was proposed to construct the temple at Divurumpola, which the Sri Lankan government claims to be the site where Sita underwent the agnipariksha (fire test)'' to prove her purity. MP goes to the polls in November along with Rajasthan, Delhi and Chhattisgarh.
Chouhan revealed his engineered plans for a green'' Madhya Pradesh by 2018 laying an irrigational network with dams and connecting rivers to water 40,000 lakh hectare of land. When the BJP came to power in 2003, there was only 7.5 lakh hectare under irrigation. By 2013, the state has achieved an irrigation cover for 25 lakh hectares which has resulted in Madhya Pradesh producing more wheat that Punjab and Haryana. We have the highest agricultural production in the country.''
The chief minister argued that there can be no agriculture without water. In the next five years, the irrigation network would spread to cover the arid regions of Malwa in the West and Bundelkhand in the northern part of the state, he said. Dams and reservoirs would be constructed throughout the state along with the joining of rivers which would then be taken to irrigate the fields,'' Chouhan said in the presence of veteran leader LK Advani. And thereafter, Malwa and Bundelkhand will also produce more wheat than Punjab and Haryana. Cultivation of flowers, fruits, cashcrops and production of milk will be encouraged to make agriculture a profitable venture.''
Chouhan claimed he has a dream to change the state's economy from over-dependence on agriculture to laying a network of small-scale industries throughout rural Madhya Pradesh. For this, the state has started a scheme for the youth who may secure a bank loan of Rs 25 lakh to start a small industry while the state government stands as his guarantor. Our youth are capable of changing the industrial scenario of the state,'' Chouhan affirmed.
The chief minister's another pet project is to ascertain that a labourer's one-day's salary gets him his month-long ration. On Saturday, the Madhya Pradesh government beat the Centre in the implementation of Food Security. The BJP state government started distribution of wheat at Re 1 per kg and rice at Rs 2 per kg to poor families. If a poor man can bring home his family's month long ration with just one day's salary, he can use the rest of his income for his children's education and save for his future,'' Chouhan said. With a hat-trick return, the BJP will take the Nal-Jal (pipeline water) scheme to every village and habitation. I am not in favour of tube-wells any more. In the next five years, I wish to change Madhya Pradesh villages by providing water connection in every household,'' he added.
