Bijoy keyboard mandatory for all mobile phones: BTRC

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has made it mandatory to use the Bijoy Android Package Kit (apk) on all imported and locally-manufactured android mobile phones.

The telecommunication regulator will not give permission to market any smartphone without the Bijoy keyboard.

The order was issued on Friday to the relevant stakeholders, including the president of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association.

According to the government's instructions, all smart mobile phones are required to use the Bijoy keyboard.

It said that all imported and locally-manufactured smart handsets will have to install the BTRC-supplied Bijoy android APK file and display it to the commission before marketing.

Otherwise, a no objection will not be issued for marketing any smartphone.

The instruction will be effective from the date of issuance of the letter.

The letter also stated that the Bijoy Android APK file will be provided free of charge from the spectrum department within three working days of the issuance of this letter.

In short - yes.

The Keyboard has spyware built in which will report keyboard strokes to the "mother ship" audited by the govt.

People are already notifying the android app market Google play that this is illegal. The app may be taken off Google play at some point.

This guy's attempts will fall flat on his face.

BTRC will bypass Google Play and get phone manufacturers to install Bijoy directly via apk files.

All Apps collect data. However, recording key strokes will be a deal breaker for Google Android.
BTW the app has horrible ratings on Google Play.

Now google play store rating is 1.1 out of 5 , with 100k downloads!

I am guessing if they review-bombed the app like they're doing now, it'd get kicked out of Google play....

If the Govt. forced the install of the app, then that'd be a problem.

Google can tussle with the govt. and it won't look good internationally.

Steve JOB-bar will do the equivalent of Nakey-Khot.....

There is a strong possibility that they'll pull the app from Google Play. And maybe Apple App store too if it consistently gets bad reviews and is seen as a mandatory download.

Steve Job-bar has no clue.
