On 21 October 2019, German and Belgian UN soldiers of the MINUSMA contingent in Gao provided first aid in a serious traffic accident.
A civilian truck had strayed from the road about 15:20 clock Central European time during an overtaking 14 kilometers southwest of the German Camp Castor and overturned. In the process, several Malian civilians, who were on the truck bed, were injured. Five people suffered severe, 12 people slight injuries.
As part of their military mission, German and Belgian UN soldiers were on site at the time of the incident. They immediately provided first aid. A German mobile medical team (BAT) called from the Camp Castor and other MINUSMA soldiers from the Camp Castor supported at the scene of the accident.
The five seriously injured were taken by the German soldiers in a civilian Malian hospital. The slightly injured were evacuated by civilian vehicles.
After completion of all measures returned the German and Belgian soldiers against 18.40 clock Central European time back to Camp Castor.
