Being Half Asian in China and Japan

.
Ah, wow, a native Shanghai-er eh? Your city is impressive. International and Beautifully designed. Have you been back recently?

Native in what sense?

The true native Shanghainese are labeled as "本地人", while most Shanghainese came from Jiangsu and Zhejiang from a large emigration wave from 1900 to 1950.

.
BTW, I think North Chinese and South Chinese should marry with each other, this will produce the better looking future offspring for China.

My opinion is there is a big, big difference in the mannerisms of Northern Chinese (Beijing, Nanjing) as compared to the Southern Chinese (Guangzhou, Hong Kong). My personal experience I feel that Southern Chinese, especially Cantonese speakers, are more amicable ? They are very friendly , and quick to help out foreign tourists, and understanding. When I was in Beijing , i found the people to be colder, more to themselves , less amicable than Southern Chinese. Or maybe its just a Cantonese thing? That they are very welcoming ? My Auntie and her extended family really showed me how Chinese (Cantonese) are like. Very very family oriented...

You forgot CD is also cantonese speaker :D

Ah you're right! Yes, he's from HK! :woot:

In the sense that you're from that area. Ah, i never knew that there was a large migration of Jiangsu and Zhejiang folk , very interesting. Shanghai truly is a hodgepodge then. In a good way.

Nanjingers are considered as South Chinese, but the most northern South Chinese group along with Shanghainese.

In fact, it is the North Chinese who prefer to live in large group, while the South Chinese are colder who only minds their own business.

My ancestry mainly came from Jiangsu and Zhejiang, just like other mainstream Shanghainese.

I never thought Shanghainese were considered South, perhaps Northerners from Beijing do?

Shanghainese are southerners, all area below of Qinling mountain and Huai River should be considered as South China.

But South Chinese are very diversified as well, but we are more diversified than North Chinese, who lived in the grand plain which is more easier to communicate with each other.

While most places in South China are hills and mountainous areas, so most people are isolated from each other, hence the South Chinese dialects are very different from each other.

Many Chinese in Japan were from my hometown

The older generation of Chinese-Japanese are mostly from Southern China, btw. During Chinese New Year, if you go to Chinatown Tokyo -- you can hear Cantonese spoken everywhere hahaha.

The younger Chinese immigrants to Japan nowadays are from all over China, and Mandarin speakers.

Anyways, here's the Chinatown gate in Tokyo,

The older generation of Chinese in Japan came from either Guangdong or Sichuan.

Since sweet and sour pork is a Cantonese dish which is popular in Japan.

Mapo Tofu is a Sichuanese dish which is also popular in Japan.

PS, there are also many Shanghainese immigrated to Japan from 1980-1990s.

Tokyo folk are too chit chatty, and they speak in Tokyo (Edo) dialect. Which i find annoying. Their ways are too fast. In Sapporo , we take our time to do things. We're considered 'country folk' so Tokyo-ites somewhat look down on us.

Bah, who cares? lol.

I'll pick Sapporo over Tokyo any day.

Most northerners are not cold, they are very warm.

It is the southerners who are colder in general, especially Taiwanese and HKers in general.

I've never been to TW but i heard from some HK people that Taiwanese people are warmer than HK and our nipponjin here experienced Beijingers colder than Guangdong people. I think everyone have different experiences.

What's the other half ? I didn't know you're Hapa. :-)

He meant to say his other half is awesome
In fact, I have cherry picked the individuals, since most Eurasian individuals in China are not good looking.

Especially those mixed with South Chinese, but mixing with North Chinese will produce slightly better ones.

Yea I find Eurasians have a strange sort of fake look to them. They look like the guy from speedracer to me:

Some Beiingers can be annoying and a completely buffoon, just like some Shanghainese.

I think he may get some bad experience with some bad individuals in China.
