HK should be brought under the direct control of the Communist Party of China regardless whatever was agreed with the UK prior to the handover. Since HK is part of China, there is no point in experimenting with UK style governance. The trouble can easily spill in to the mainland China if HK becomes too unstable.

You don’t see the US give explanations or seek approval from others about their internal affairs. Neither should China.
