BD Military Might

China should also announce a CPEC kind of program for BD as well. In this way, BD will also buy all Chinese weapons...

1.We have been progressing slowly but surely in spite of India's objections. From inception we have adopted the Doctrine of Traditional People's War. An invader will face the same treatment that we had meed out to the Maratha Vashkar Pandit or the Rajput General Mansingh. Meanwhile we have been acquiring the best eqpt we can afford. Our recruitment requirements are stringent resulting in an army where large number of soldiers are graduates. From S America to S Korea and USA to Russia, our personnel train everywhere.
2. Ask a rickshaw puller on the street of Dhaka or a fisherman on the R Padma, all our people are absolutely clear about the top potential threat to our sovereignty. It may be surprising to read/hear, we are not scared of India; they are scared of us.

We should now prepare ourselves to assume regional power role in South Asia and the Indian Ocean region.
No. Don't get into super power regional power complex. We should keep improving our economy. That that should be the main focus till 2030.

We need to rise up, or else others will keep trying to dominate us. Take a look at the recent terrorist activities. We have no role in the Middle East crisis, we have no clashes against any Great Power, yet they have tried to destabilize us. As one of the largest nations in the world, we need to secure a major position and send a message to others.

A strong Bangladesh is obviously needed for regional stability.

Largest nation?

Anyway I don't care about regional stability. As long as Bangladesh is stable I'm happy with it. As of now we need to improve our economy. Economic power is no less than military might. I'm not against military improvements but economy has to get the topmost priority. A richer Bangladesh is a stronger Bangladesh.

With a population of over 160 million people, we are indeed the 8th largest nation in the world.

A bigger economy will require a bigger military to secure it from external threats. Our own stability is tied to the regional stability. Hence, we need to look beyond.

Large in terms of population, yeah...but usually largest is used to define size/area etc.

Our foreign policy is sound. That should help. I'm all for military improvement. But don't get into super power complex. India considers itself super power while China considers itself as a developing nation. Which path should we follow?

Obviously, fake pride should always be avoided. That's why I said we should "prepare" ourselves!

Nation means people. So largest nation means largest population. So @Species is correct in his assertion.

Geographic size is one of the weakest parameter for a country to project power and influence.More important are population size, size of economy, technological advancement, military power, engagement in world politics etc.
