Full frontal assaults....never a fun thing to do...and almost never successful with tenacious defensive opposition.

But Quebec was lost in the end :( ...that was a major dent in France's aspiration to be a truly global power.

Also worth noting that many of the "British" fighting in this campaign (a part of the 7 years war) would later join the US continental forces and fight against the King for their independence :P....and the French aided them immensely. Yeah Karma has always existed :)

.
The french problem was always they had to divide resources between the army and the navy.Because of the huge army from louis xiv's time navy was always neglected. So they focused most of their resources on the continent(because each king wanted glory and prestige ) where they were contained by big coalitions, but neglected those far off colonial ventures where real gains could be made in terms of profit..which the english focused on.Without the much maligned french fleet there would not be a yorktown.

There are many reasons why France lost there.
First is the poor commitment and interest from mainland France to the New France. We were mainly focused on the European theater that we neglected the one in our colonies.
The troops in new France were successfully repelling and defeating the British forces assaults and the start of the conflict saw many victories from the French side. But the lack of supplies and troops, the British naval superiority which transfered massive supplies and troops to North America, which blocked any attempts from France to send supplies and England's massive commitment to North America explain why the French lost there. The French Royal Navy remained in the ports, most time of the conflict which left the Nouvelle France unsupplied and vulnerable.
