Full frontal assaults....never a fun thing to do...and almost never successful with tenacious defensive opposition.
But Quebec was lost in the end ...that was a major dent in France's aspiration to be a truly global power.
Also worth noting that many of the "British" fighting in this campaign (a part of the 7 years war) would later join the US continental forces and fight against the King for their independence ....and the French aided them immensely. Yeah Karma has always existed
The french problem was always they had to divide resources between the army and the navy.Because of the huge army from louis xiv's time navy was always neglected.So they focused most of their resources on the continent(because each king wanted glory and prestige ) where they were contained by big coalitions,but neglected those far off colonial ventures where real gains could be made in terms of profit..which the english focused on.Without the much maligned french fleet there would not be a yorktown.
