So, today we are going to talk about hearing protection. Hearing Protection or just simply EarPro are very important typically for one reason because your hearing get worse with time it don't get any better especially when you are shooting guns that's a lot of damage to your hearing. So, we need to make sure you are taking good care of your ears otherwise you'll not be able to listen to sick trap music you want to listen when you're 35.
So often times simpler solution is one of the best solution.
Ear Plugs:
Little fomies put them deep on your ear canal and boom good hearing protection.
Surefire EP Sonic Defenders:
A little upgrade to these simple ear plugs would be these.
What they do is they go in your ear. Then you can also open up the flying to listen to the conversation anything below and just above 82 decibels get through but blocks out damaging sounds. They have about 24 decibels of noise reduction they are pretty cheap so definitely recommend this.

Now if you want to get a over the ear simple ear muff you can get one but it's not very versatile. A word of advice if you shoot indoors for example you shoot in indoor shooting range mauve you're LE or Military Door Kicker doing lot of CQB I would definitely recommend a in ear and over the ear EarPro because indoors bang sound really damage ears.
Now if we step up the game we have Electronic EarPro they are bit costly do they worth it are you worth it. I would recommend a electronic EarPro for variety of reasons. One of the main reason is being you want to have situational awareness around you. You wanna hear your teammates when in field and bullets flying around. You wanna talk to people without yelling in ear or removing your EarPro and all kind of stuff.
You don't wanna spend extra amount of money on the things you don't need. If you are leisure shooter or in shooting sports get some sporty EarPro there are many different options.
How they work?
Electronic EarPro Comms or No Comms have built in mics and amplifier. So these mics listen to the sounds around you they amplify the sound which is damaging to a safe level and enhance the other sounds to such a level that you can hear conversation way over there under fire or if some one is whispering near you.
Lets start of by Sporty or Leisure shooter types:
Howard Leight Impact Sport(No Comms):
Howard Leights are among best budget EarPros. They are rugged durable and fairly comfortable. Have built in Mic+Amplifier. Noise reduction is fairly good. They are heat, cold and water proof. Just don't go scuba diving while wearing these. Offers and 3.5mm audio jack for Brittany Spears fans.
You can get them for 50$.
Wakker's Razor(No Comms):
This is one the best options of Leisure Shooter. Have a angled design for better fit. Have a sturdy metal frame. Nice rugged design.
It has a price tag of 40$.
Peltor Comtac III (With Comms);
Well the gold standard is going to be Peltor Comtac III which is being used by everyone all over the world. There is reason behind it.
Comtac III in different configurations
They are good at different things. They are not amazing but a great benchmark. You can use the down leads to attach to any push to talk and then to radio so you can hear and talk to with the noise reduction boom mic. If you don't need mic you can move them out of the way. You can also attach mic to both sides depend upon what you like. If you don't use military type of radios there is a option too. They have noise reduction level of 23 decibels which is good. They are not too fat. They are fairly slim and sit high on your head, bringing a rifle stock up to your cheek it don't push it up breaking a safety seal. They last for a long time they have 500 hours battery life under optimal conditions which is 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit with lithium batteries. Reality on a good day you get 80-100 hours battery which is still pretty good. 2x Triple A batteries is all you need.
On the back side they offer a jack for 3.5 mm audio device like I-Pod so you can listen to T-Swift music. On the left side it has control buttons for turning them ON/OFF volume UP/HIGH.
They offer two down leads to plug into different types of radios at same time. They can be be mounted to helmets. But leave that to professionals because it's not easy to do so you may break some stuff. They cannot converted back to head strap config. Unless you buy different version or use some different mounts.
You can buy it 350$ USED. New one will cost 500-600$. They are fairly priced because of the reason they are Gold Standard. One of the reason is sound. When you are wearing these you feel like Apex predator. Because of the situational awareness it provides.

A dude was wearing Peltors at Max volume a fly flew across his mic. He genuinely freaked out.
TCI/MSA Liberators-Sordin Type(Comms):
They are again one of the best EarPros. Battery save function, low battery warning (40), auto shutdown (4h), battery life time 600h.Sound level limitation, max 90 dB(A)
For outdoor it is good but for the indoors totally no go, you have to double them up.
Different configurations.
Pretty much same as Peltors but offers single down lead. Boom Mic is fixed. 3.5mm audio jack is included.
It has battery life 600 hours again under optimal conditions. It pick up sound more than you need. For example you can hear person talking upstairs
Price Tag is lower than peltors.
Ops Core AMP(Comms):
Ops Core AMP is best EarPro headset out there. It is without a doubt best user serviceable, configurable, best sounding headset out there.
You have noise reduction of 22 decibels just lower than Peltors. Everything is configurable; headband, boom mic, controls buttons. Headband comes off very easily unlike Peltors and Sordin types. You can attach to helmet by using its unique mount. Headband is very well made and comfortable.
There are also other options.
I know people will they are costly are they worth it? Who cares. For them;

Hi-Threat (HTH) – Tier 1(Comms):
They feel very similar to Peltors. Cool thing about this headset they have adapters to easily swap to helmet config or back to headband config. That is very nice feature. Others can be configured to do that. But this one is built that way. It is dual comms means two down leads can be attached for using two different radios. It looks like Liberators/Sordin but different circuit. HTH also includes a ballistic and submersible Noise Canceling boom microphone that can provide compatibility with multiple communication platforms such as 2-way radios, vehicle/aircraft/watercraft ICS systems. Depending on your requirement we offer a variety of microphone options to choose from.
