The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday brought the arrested Jammat–Ul-Mujahideen, Bangladesh (JMB) operative Torikul Islam, an accused in the Bardhaman blast to Kolkata.
Torikul Islam alias Raihan Sheikh alias Sadik alias Sumon on whom the NIA had declared an award of Rs 5 lakh was arrested from Jharkhand on Tuesday.
According to the NIA the accused was a “key trainer in the terrorist training camps organised by JMB in India”. His name was also mentioned in the chargesheet filed the NIA on July 23, 2015 where the agency had claimed that the JMB had hatched a conspiracy from India to unsettle the democratic government in Bangladesh.
Investigation into the accidental blast at Khargragarh in Bardhaman, which killed two JMB operatives, had exposed the conspiracy.
Torikul Islam is Bangladeshi national hailing from Sapai Nawabganj district of Raj Shahi division of Bangladesh and had married an Indian girl from Sahebganj in Jharkhand, the NIA said.
“The marriage was solemnised at Simulia Madrasa in Burdwan (Bardhaman), West Bengal, where the terrorist training camps were organised by JMB. He had been quietly staying residing at village Islampur in Sahebganj under the assumed identity of Raihan Sheikh,” NIA sources said.
According to the investigators the accused used to report to Sajid alias Sk Rahmaullah, who is arrested in connection with the conspiracy.
The NIA is likely to produce him before a court on Thursday.
