He seem like poor guy so dont know what welfare benefit and high skilled jobs or money he will be offered in assam but if he is illegal then should be deported ..make your border tough so that nobody can cross it illegally instead of every man acting as bsf jawan and investigating on street

Thats exactly the point, this lot take away whats in huge demand by the locals...the basic jobs like construction, farm labour etc....and definitely the basic welfare/govt spending on the population (for basic services and infra) be it direct by fake identity creation for benefits (food, housing, schooling) OR be the depreciation extra population burden imposes on various public goods/infra.

If BD's were talented people higher in economic pyramid chain. They would:

a) not be crossing illegally in first place
b) would be going to the places where such jobs are found like in Indian cities etc
c) would be contributing to creating more jobs, tax revenue etc (i.e fiscally positive net effect), so it would not be as much an issue tbh

But all three clauses are not met one bit....this becomes a social drain and net negative fiscal burden....given India has oversupply/overcompetition already in what these BD illegals bring to the table skill and presence wise.

It's being done, the numbers have dropped significantly from the 80s and 90s and early 2000's. However some will still get through...given very nature of the border (it is highly porous even with fencing/protection, given the rivers and so on)...i.e the return on investment is quickly reached in certain areas for prevention infra (i.e its not that sensitive to the level you spend or the men you commit to border security). So there will always be some stream coming in that the locals have to be vigilant about as well.

The main issue has now turned (with the plugging of border increasingly) to legally sorting out the ones already here and are different levels of entrenched. That is the NRC process ongoing now in Assam for example.
