Though it is not totally tuned to the topic, but this song of a Bangladeshi revolutionary and romantic poet-lyricist, named Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah, is something that goes through hearts. In the video posted below Kabir Suman (a Bengali Brahmin who later embraced Islam) is seen singing the song.

Hope my Bangladeshi brothers will like it.

Just noticed a video posted (on this thread) of a singer called Kabir Sumon. Been reading (on the net and press) about him and his foray into WB politics etc, etc.
Years ago, someone gave me some cassettes (cassettes were king then!) of a singer called Sumon Chattopadhay; ballads kind of stuff.
Now my question to you - any connection between the two?
Quite enjoyed his songs then.

And of course; Happy New Year and wishing you a (Y)earful of listening to Good Music !!

Yes, it's the same Suman Chaterjee, once a great musician and now politician cum maoist sympathiser cum social activist. He converted when getting married to Sabina Yasmin, a Bangladeshi singer mostly famous for singing Rabindra Sangeet.

And then he became a card-carrying acolyte of Mamata-didi. What's with this "Kabir " business? Not vote-bank politics kind of move, i hope? Is he active in politics now?

He's not that active, recently went gung-ho against didi, don't know the present status.

Not sure about the Kabir thingy, probably because of pending divorce suit with his Anglo-Indian 4th wife at the time he married Sabina. He is otherwise the coffee-house goer ilk, self-proclaimed agnostic, nihilist and polygamist. :p
