Troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF) arrested a Bangladeshi national in Meghalaya with explosives and weapons, a BSF official said Monday. Azad Miya, 40, a suspected militant, was nabbed Sunday night from Umkiang village near the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district,BSF spokesman Ravi Gandhi told IANS.
BSF troopers seized explosives, a country-made pistol, knife and a mobile handset with two Bangladeshi SIM cards and 10 Bangladesh taka from Azad Miya's possession. "Azad Miya appears to be a hardcore fundamentalist and a hard nut to crack. So far he has refused to divulge any details barring admitting that he is a Bangladeshi national," Gandhi said.
Meghalaya shares a 443-km border with Bangladesh, part of which is porous, hilly, unfenced and prone to frequent infiltration. The BSF have handed over the Bangladeshi national and the seized items to Meghalaya Police.
