Bangladesh’s team beat the Russian, Canadian, US, Indian, Malaysian, Iranian, and Indonesian teams

Bangladesh has won five bronze medals–four individual medals and one team bronze medal- at the International Economics Olympiad held online between September 7-13. With this, a group of teenagers brought fame to the country once again.

Individual medal winners of the Bangladesh team are Darpan Barua and Fariha Zaman Promy from SFX Green Herald International School, Syed Nazif Ishrak is from Sunnydale School and Faraz Mohiuddin Chowdhury is from Sunbeams School.

The Bangladesh national team won the team a bronze medal in the Business Case round, by beating: Russia, Canada, the United States of America, India, Malaysia, Iran, and Indonesia, read a press release.

They also managed to be in fifth position in the Financial Literacy round–out of 29 countries that participated in the competition.

Additionally, Esfar Jawad of SFX Green Herald International School performed excellently in the Financial Literacy Round.

The teenagers participated in IEO under the supervision of their team leader, Md Al-Amin Parvez Lecturer, Dhaka School of Economics, University of Dhaka and Akhter Ahmed, chairman of Capstone School Dhaka.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees for IEO is Nobel Prize winner Eric Maskin who is also a professor at Harvard University.

Ten participants, out of a total of 800 from across the country, were selected to represent Bangladesh in Kazakhstan.

After a month-long training, five students participated in the international competition.
The competition consisted of three different rounds, Financial Literacy, Economics and Business Case.

The judging platform for this year's competition is protijog.com and the media partner of the competition is The Daily Star.

Prominent economist and social activist Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed, who is leading the Bangladesh Economics Olympiad Committee, congratulated the winning team.
