Bangladesh has sent emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan for earthquake-hit people.

A C130-J aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) took off with emergency relief materials, including medicines, blankets, dry food and tents at around 6 am on Tuesday, said an ISPR press release.

Over a thousand Afghans were killed, over 2000 seriously injured and thousands of homes destroyed in a strong earthquake that hit the eastern region of Afghanistan on 22 June.

The earthquake has led to a humanitarian crisis with a severe shortage of food, water and shelter as well as emergency medical treatment.

As per the prime minister's policy of integrated development, Bangladesh has decided to stand beside Afghanistan and its people to help overcome the natural disaster.

Bangladesh itself is the 5th largest aid receiver globally. Is it diverting its own aid to afghanistan? o_O

So what? India and Turkey are the biggest recipients - do they not donate?

Turkey as a recipient of aid? Their average GDP PPP on a nominal basis is 10,000 on a PPP basis is 30,000 which is 7-8x Bangladeshs. Hard to believe their a top recepient of aid as India or Bangladesh

Please read,

Bangladesh provided hundreds of millions to Sri Lanka as well as Maldives as loan.

Aid given is a controversial thing, because the conditions (strings attached such as expensive contractors from donor country) mean that the foreign donor takes away more than it gives, especially in South Asia. This is how we in South Asia cannot break the cycle of poverty.

Why do you worry if Turkey receives aid or not? It is the duty of mankind to help each other in times of natural calamities. BD is doing exactly what is needed within its means.

Why do you criticize us for being poor? Can you not be more benevolent in character?
