Bangladesh sends aid to Philippines

Bangladesh has sent a ship to the Philippines to distribute emergency aid for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. A ship carrying the aid will reach the Philippines on November 29, says a press release issued by Inter-Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) on Monday. According to the press release, “BNS Somudro Joy” has started sailing towards the Philippines as the first ship after the US to deliver aid to the country, reports BSS. Meanwhile, around Tk1m has been allotted from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to buy important items for the aid. Dry and canned foods, water, water purifying tablets, food for children, garments and necessary medicines have been sent on the basis of the advice given by the Philippines embassy in Bangladesh. Philippines High Commissioner Major General John Gomes (Rtd) and Captain of BNS Somudro Joy Commander Mohammad Nazmul Karim Kislu, PSC and BN will hand over the aid to Manila’s Mayor and Aid Management Commissioner of the country.
