Bangladesh ready to send 500,000 housemaids

Saudi Gazette report

JEDDAH — A source from the Ministry of Labor said the Bangladeshi government is ready to send 500,000 qualified housemaids to the Kingdom but is awaiting the finalization of an expatriate recruitment agreement between the two countries.

The source also said a delegate from the ministry will be leaving for Bangladeshi capital Dhaka to decide the date of recruitment, link Saudi recruitment companies with Bangladeshi companies and finalize the agreement.

“The Bangladeshi government has adhered to all rules and regulations set by the Kingdom to reopen Bangladeshi expatriate recruitment in the Kingdom,” he said.

The Bangladeshi Consul General Shahid Al-Kareem said his government went to “great lengths” to meet Saudi Arabia’s recruitment requirements.

He said: “The government established a new ministry, the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, and prepared a database of two million qualified candidates.

“The Saudi Ministry of Labor’s delegation to Bangladesh in the coming days will discuss salary details, age requirements, job opportunities, and work visas.”

He added that recruitment has not started yet as the two countries have not finalized the conditions of the agreement.

“The Bangladeshi cadre is qualified to occupy a variety of jobs. The Bangladeshi government has opened 64 training centers to train workers in the occupations of engineers, nurses, housemaids, and drivers.

Currently more than 1.2 million Bangladeshis are residing in the Kingdom. Over 800,000 of them received the royal bonus given on the occasion of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman’s inauguration.

Minister of Labor Adel Fakeih said his ministry had already announced that it would accept Bangladeshi expatriates.

He said: “After what we saw from the Bangladeshi government and its determination to meet our requirements, we look forward to begin recruiting Bangladeshi expatriates and fulfill the needs of our local job market.”

DAMMAM — Housemaids from Bangladesh are expected to arrive in the Kingdom within the next three months, according to sources close to the recruitment offices in the Eastern Province.

The sources said the Labor Ministry has opened its Musanid electronic portal to receive applications for housemaids from Bangladesh.

They expected the issuance of work visas to start within the next two weeks, after which the house helps will complete the formalities so they can start arriving early July.

The sources said applications for the recruitment of manpower from Bangladesh are only received through the portal by licensed recruitment offices.

According to the sources, national recruitment offices have already started negotiations with their counterparts in Dhaka to start signing official contracts for manpower recruitment.
Bangladesh has more than 200 recruitment offices but each Saudi national recruitment facility is allowed to deal with two of them only.

The sources said the cost of recruitment of housemaids from Bangladesh ranges between SR8,000 and SR10,000 with a monthly salary fixed at SR800, while the recruitment cost of a housemaid from the Philippines may go up to SR18,000 with a monthly wage of at least SR1,200.

It is expected that about 10,000 workers from Bangladesh will proceed to the Kingdom every month. Most of the recruits will be domestic helpers consisting mainly of drivers and maids.

The Kingdom recruited 1.3 million foreign workers last year and intends to hire a similar number of workers in 2015.

According to press reports in Dhaka, Saudi Arabia hosts about 29 percent of 9.17 million overseas Bangladeshi workers.

The Kingdom halted hiring construction and agriculture workers from Bangladesh in 2008. Subsequently, manpower from Bangladesh dropped from 15,000 monthly arrivals to 10,000.

Labor Minister Adel Fakeih announced on Jan. 21 that the door to import manpower from Bangladesh would soon be reopened.

According to official Bangladeshi government statistics, there are 1.3 million Bangladeshis currently working in the Kingdom. Other official figures put that number at 2.63 million.

That's just cruel. Poor lady.

The human rights abuse in SA is quiet high. You are generalizing about pakistan. Hunger and poverty can bring people unto knees.

.
jokes aside.. Pakistanis are mostly skilled workers,transportation... not domestic servants like "others" ... and than there are the educated ones (docs, engineers etc) n military advisors, trainers.
