well, this is more of an eye-catcher.... these have little value unless they result in some strategic agreements, which I don't see....

e.g. there are so many power plants being established now-a-days that its difficult to keep track of each.... and this list includes the Rampal project, which has been shown several times already in different occasions.... the other 3000MW power plant at Meghnaghat is already an old project.... its MOU was signed when Modi came to Bangladesh.....

there's no point showing the same babies time and again....

what about road and rail connection between Bangladesh and Nepal-Bhutan?..... thats more important....
what about electricity lines through India from Nepal?....

and where the heck is our WATER??..... how dare India offer us such repetitive electricity deals without offering the thing that matters the most??....

India is making a big mistake here!!

Whatever 'deals' they made was carefully thought out and executed. There is no chance of any mistake being made.

They will only act in their own interest. No surprise there.....

What specifically are you referring to - in terms of 'development' (or lack thereof) for Bangladesh vs. Indian pharma? I believe we may have a gap in information here....

neither Tista water-sharing..... nor Ganga Barrage agreement..... NOTHING!!

We are the world's largest producer of Generic drugs. I am not sure how it is cheap in BD than in India? Moreover FTA means getting free duties favourable to both the countries. Its not a one way street. And trust me. Signing an FTA with India is lot better than with China.

We meet all of our countries demands and export 5% of our drugs abroad... why would we buy the same drug from India when we are making it in our country. But a deal in industrial produce... agricultural equipment trucks etc would be beneficial.

I don't think Bangladesh wants 'free' trade access in India of any sort, for any product. What it wants (to my understanding) is 'fair access', a level playing field, free of non-tariff trade barriers and political tampering of trade issues, tilted in favor of non-competitive local Indian companies. To retaliate in trade, we should be playing the same game in Bangladesh (and tilting trade rules ad-hoc to favor our local companies), but we don't. And I have no idea why....


We have no advantage in Indian market. The promise of Indian market has been more or less unfruitful for Bangladesh companies and suppliers as evidenced in the last four decades. Trade barriers of various kinds in India took care of that.



Let's correct that. Indian commercial vehicles (lower end ones) have a good market in Bangladesh. That is because they are dirt-cheap and offer lower transport costs (they can be driven to our borders here fairly cheaply via Indian road network) and the unsophisticated needs of the Bangladesh lower end commercial vehicle market are no different than the rest of India. However higher end commercial vehicles (luxury buses and six axle trucks on up, as well as construction trucks), are almost all Japanese brands (Hino, Isuzu, Mitsubishi etc.) or more recently - mostly Chinese.

Even Robert Clive couldn't make money from India he promised to the East India Company shareholders!!! So, that scum of the hell committed suicide!!!

Nope. Basic ingredients are imported from China. BD Pharma hasnt developed to the level Indian companies have developed. But again if you want free access for textiles BD has to reciprocate in return for an item that India is a leader in. Infact India is a larger market for BD, and hence advantage is for your companies.

Its best to make money off BD through medical services (given BD people are now coming over for the most simple of diagnostic tests to India in huge numbers and good hard earned money)....and give them nothing access-wise in return for that (given our own suppliers are best for that regarding RMG etc).

Their pharma market is tiny and limited in complexity thus why their local companies can meet that.

About 2 billion USD total size market by 2018 basically...whereas India's own domestic market will be past 50 billion USD by that point and will still only be the 6th largest in the world (and hence you can get an idea of the highest priority markets in absolute growth and size).

BD will only be worth revisiting about 10+ years down the road....there is a reason why their patents granted at the USPTO dropped from 2 in 2015 to just one in 2016 (after peaking at 3 in 2014)....whereas India's ballooned from 3300 to 3700 approximately (and largely because of pharma, IT and transport).

A few of them think posting pictures changes the basic reality....this is the promising pharma export growth they were celebrating not too long ago (i.e fun for them to celebrate % growth on a terribly low LDC base):

Compare to India which is now approaching 20 billion in pharma exports per year....their total exports in a year come to a day or two of India's in the sector and they're barely growing in value or volumes.
