Bangladesh for 'visible' Indian cooperation over hydropower imports from Nepal, Bhutan

State minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid has sought "visible Indian cooperation" for importing hydropower from Nepal and Bhutan, reports UNB.

He joined a bilateral meeting on electricity cooperation between Bangladesh and India in New Delhi on Wednesday.

At the meeting, Nasrul headed the Bangladesh delegation and Power, New and Renewable Energy minister Raj Kumar Singh led the Indian side, the power division said in a statement.
Indian private companies' interest in exporting renewable energy to Bangladesh was also discussed at the meeting.

Nasrul talked about the growth of Bangladesh's power sector and said the demand for electricity is increasing continuously in the country.

"If electricity can be imported from Assam, uninterrupted supply to northern Bangladesh can be ensured. Although we import 1,160MW of electricity from India, we want to import more," he said.

Raj Kumar said India can supply more electricity to the northern part of Bangladesh.

Assuring cooperation regarding electricity import from Nepal, he said: "We can move forward together for the development of Bangladesh's electricity sector."

The issues discussed today may be further examined and decided at the next Joint Steering Committee, he added.

Instead of begging India, BD should join hands with China and annex India's chicken's neck.

BTW you should be realistic with your aspirations. Mungerilal ke haseen sapne dekhne se kuch nahi hone wala. Cooperation is way to go forward and win win situation for all the countries involved!!

We don't have territorial or global dominance ambition. We just want to live a good quality of life. And india yet to threaten our territorial integrity. If they do then we will do everything we can to protect ourselves...

It is very obvious that India wants to export more of its own electricity. This has been continuing for many years. India wants us to depend upon its own supply.

As such, begging for electricity from Nepal will remain far away. Any country cannot give away its self-interest though a weak BD does it.

BD is preparing to import $32 billion worth of goods and services from India. Soooo great when BD cannot pursue India to get electricity from Nepal.!!!
