Bold part: You may not be correct in your assessment about BD economy in the 70s. United Pakistan had a $25 billion economy of which east had $10 billion and west had $15 billion. After the breakup, BD was completely bankrupt, it did not have a single dollar of foreign exchange. Export almost halted. Most of our jute and jute-goods were smuggled to India. During the 1st half of 70s Indian businesses built 5 new jute mills near the border.Best of Luck Bangladesh. Economic Development should be celebrated. However So far Bangladesh Economy have not Surpassed that of Pakistan. In fact Bangladesh Economy was ahead of Pakistan in Mid 70s. Everyone can check. But lagged behind with a small margin since then. However we should not make each other a benchmark for economy. Both are 3rd world countries
Everything changed gradually after the 80s when some of our small businesses started building small sewing shops here and there to export. Only after this the country gradually kept on rising economically. The economy looks better than Pakistan only because the Rupee lost its value.
