KARACHI: The Supreme Court is set to hear the plea of Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain on 7th February regarding the ongoing case in Islamabad High Court by Justice Shaukat Aziz, where the judge gave remarks to put a lifetime ban on Aamir Liaquat.
Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain is not only a well-known personality in Pakistan but his popularity exceeds borders. His name was mentioned thrice among those few Pakistani’s who were consistently named in the list of 500 Most Famous & Influential Muslims of the world. He has also been a former Minister of Religious Affairs. However, he has been barred to appear on television for 63 days now. From restricting him to give any news analysis to using his voice, image or advertisement; he has been banned. His website & facebook page with over 25 lac likes is also facing shut down in Pakistan.
It is interesting to note that a petition was filed against Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain in Islamabad High Court, where without listening to him, he was banned for 28 days. On the next hearing, the petitioner requested to take back his petition but the Senior Judge Justice Shaukat Aziz refused and criticized a defense institution in response to this. The judge reprimanded and declared that the petitioner and Aamir Liaquat has relations with a ‘defense institution’. Justice Shaukat Aziz ruled to keep the ban intact and ordered Aamir Liaquat to submit is the response in 15 days. However, the court did not hear the case on its given date after the response was submitted. Now the case is set to be heard on 6th February in Supreme Court.
In the beginning of 2017, Justice Shaukat Aziz was the same Judge who removed the ban from Aamir Liaquat, allowing him to continue his program.
Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain with Advocate Baber Awan’s mediation has challenged the early decision of Islamabad High Court in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and has submitted a legal appeal and requested the court that in light of Article 19, his basic rights for freedom of speech are being divested. In the appeal, he has mentioned that media industry is his bread and butter and there are 22 families connected to him that are jobless &restricted to work from the last 4 months. Dr. Aamir Liaquat also requested the court that he has always respected the court and that this case already exists in Supreme Court; heard by Justice Saqib Nisar last year.
Last year, Justice Saqib Nisar had ordered Aamir Liaquat to send the transcript of his programs and the anchor had submitted the transcripts to the honorable court till his last program.
Dr. Aamir Liaquat Husain said ‘the most shocking part of this case is that I was banned when I wasn’t doing any program on TV’
The ban on Aamir Liaquat Husain has suppressed a bold voice against the atrocities of India, which is being felt by viewers and followers all over the country. The masses are looking forward to the hearing on 6th February where likely Chief Justice Mr. Justice Saqib Nisar will hear the case of Aamir Liaquat Husain.
