EX-President and head of All Pakistan Muslim League Gen (Retd) Pervez
Musharraf on Monday said the situation in Balochistan had no
resemblance with that of East Pakistan and asserted the province
would remain an integral part of Pakistan. The situation of Balochistan is not that grim as shown by some Baloch
leaders. They are misleading the people by showing a wrong picture of
the province; they are terrorists and have no support among the
people of Balochistan, he said while addressing the district heads of
his party through video conferencing from London on Monday. Central
leaders of the APML, including Chaudhry Mohammed Ashraf, Saima Ali Dada and Hafiz Ghulam Mohiuddin, were also present. Musharraf said
that some tribal chiefs of Balochistan were trying to give a perception
that situation in the province was similar to the East Pakistan (now
Bangladesh) which was far from reality. He said the dynamics and
situation of East Pakistan were very different from Balochistans as the
former was home to 52 percent population of Pakistan which unanimously stood to get separation. On the other hand, he said,
Balochistan formed 4 percent population of the total Pakistan and
majority of it had no interest in the agenda of some of the Baloch
Sardars whose supported was even less than 0.5 percent. The former general said that it was really regretful that some of the
nationalist leaders, rather than condemning killing of Punjabi brethren
in Balochistan, were supporting the stance of the isolated Baloch
Sardars who were talking rot about Pakistan. These people are only
talking about separation from Pakistan and we are listening to them,
please project what is the true picture of our country, said Musharraf while appealing to the media. He went on to say that Balochistan had
witnessed tremendous progress during his eight years era when
people were given jobs, a women university was opened, nine cadet
colleges were announced out of which five were established, dams
were constructed, scholarships were given to postgraduates and huge
sum of money was poured into it for development. Balochistan was still full of resources and opportunities we needed not get
disappointed, he said. The former president also stated that economic situation of the country
was not good due to which a common man had been forced to live a
miserable life. He said all this was the result of poor governance and
corruption of the present rulers. Musharraf also said that law and order in the country was also quite
alarming under the present government and killings of Shias in
different parts of the country was really condemnable and a matter of
extreme concern. Over the Karachi carnage, he said there were
backstage actors behind all the killings in which needed to be
controlled. Linking his return to country when his party showed enough strength,
Musharraf said that he wanted to make his return meaningful which
was only possible if his party showed good number which he could
lead to bring about change in the country. First show me your power, I promise you to return, and will convert
this power into a movement to change Pakistan, said Pervez
Musharraf. He also urged his party workers to unite and avoid paying
attention to petty issues and assured them to support in every possible
way.
