Bajaj bags order from Sri Lankan govt for 1.25 lakh Discover bikes

Bajaj Auto has bagged an order for 1.25 lakh units of Discover-125M motorcycles from Sri Lankan government.

The company through its distributor David Pieris Motor Company in Sri Lanka had secured an order for supply of around 50,000 units of Discover-125M motorcycles.

The company has already supplied 48,000 units successfully against this order, Bajaj Auto Ltd said in a filing to the BSE.

“The company has now secured a repeat order from them through the company’s distributor in Sri Lanka for the supply of 1.25 lakh units of Discover-125M, which the company expects to execute in next 3-4 months,” it added.

But it's going to cost them millions of $ plus it will definitely influence the potential voters in the forthcoming Presidential election,won't the Sri Lankan Electorate Commission raise a issue out of this???

Sadly the election commission or for any matter any state institution is a joke over there.. Heads of those commissions are either powerless against a highly politicized govt machinery or just a part of it.. That why i always reiterate even with all the multitude of problems you need to admire or even envy the independence of state and bureaucracy in India.. It may be cumbersome but it upholds the values of democracy over there along with your free press.. Something that is non existent in Lanka these days

What i see is the commissioner will issue an statement and it will end there.. They will bury the issue.. Rajapaksa's have totally annihilated the judiciary so there wont be any serious legal procedure.. Pity really

That is ofcause these bikes are indeed used as vote grabbers

It's a election gimmick but not per say. Bikes are being distributed to the government workers' without any taxes. Which means they will get the bike for 50,000 rupees other than normal market price of 150,000 or so.
