Land scam: New report to be submitted to SC
By Mohammad Asghar | From the Newspaper

RAWALPINDI, Oct 5: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Rawalpindi will submit to the Supreme Court a re-investigation report on acquisition of hundreds of kanals on the outskirts of the city through bogus documents. The ACE has found the role of four revenue department officials and two senior officials of Bahria Town in the land scam; Dawn has learnt.

Tehsildar Adnan Bashir Kiani, Patwari Mohammad Rizwan, Tanveer Hussain Shah and Mohammad Hussain of the revenue department and Colonel (retired) Saeed Akhtar and Mohammad Iqbal of Bahria Town have already been arrested by the ACE in addition to an estate agent, Tanveer Hussain.

The investigators have also recorded the statements of Bahria Town chairman Malik Raiz and his son Ali Riaz. However, they denied their role in the purchase of the land saying their firm had been the victim not a beneficiary.

A source close to the investigation said top officials would decide whether Malik Riaz will be arrested or not. He said the investigators were working to find strong evidence against him; however, so far they have found none.

A senior official of the ACE confirmed that a report on the re-investigation of the land scam would be submitted to the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The FIR of the case had been registered in November 2009 against the officials of the revenue and other departments for preparing fake identity cards and ownership documents of the land, out of which 1,235 kanals was transferred in the name of Bahria Town`s site supervisor Mohammad Iqbal, 60 kanals in the name of Malik Riaz and 300 kanals in the name of his son Ali Riaz. The case was registered after the villagers of Saghri in Rawat approached the ACE against the revenue officials for allegedly depriving them of their lands.

Is this not "business as usual"? The land mafia has done business in this manner for decades!

Looks like Malik Riaz has got his wealth by bogus ways.
