BAF Base Basar to get national standard on September 27

DHAKA, Sept 24, 2012 (BSS) - Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal M
Enamul Bari today apprised President Zillur Rahman that Bangladesh Air Force Base Basar will be upgraded to the national standard on September 27.

The Air Chief invited the President to give national flag to the Base on Thursday by paying a call on him (the President) at Bangabhaban here.

The Air Chief was accompanied by Air Commodore Md Naim Hassan.

During the meeting, the Air Chief informed the President of various modernization activities of the Bangladesh Air Force.

President Rahman, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, accepted the invitation. The President assured that that he would extend all out cooperation for the ongoing modernization endeavor of the Bangladesh Air Force.

Secretaries concerned of the President's Office were present on the occasion.

President gives national standard to BAF Base Bashar

DHAKA, Sept 27, 2012 (BSS) - President Zillur Rahman today gave national standard to Air Base Bashar of Bangladesh Air Force in the capital for outstanding contribution of the base in the armed forces.

The footsteps of Bangladesh Air Force had started from this historical base during the post liberation era of the country.

After Liberation Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman acquired Mig-21 fighter, AN-24cargo aircraft and MI-8 helicopter from the then Soviet Union. All these aircrafts were operated from the Base Bashar.

On the occasion President Zillur Rahman urged the air force personnel to build themselves skilled pilot, engineer and ideal airmen.

He said the present government is implementing procurement of aircraft and other gears for upgrading Bangladesh Air Force into a modern force through increasing operational efficiency and professional skills.

The President said the government has recently established Bangabandhu Aeronautical Centre at Kurmitola Air Base in the capital and a new air base in Cox's Bazar. A Surface to air missile (SAM) system has been included in the force, he added.

"I believe Bangladesh Air Force will be able to contribute more in the development process of the country and the nation after implementation of the ongoing modernization process," he said.

On his arrival at the Air Base, the President was received by Air Chief Air Marshal M Enamul Bari and Air Base Bashar Commandant Air Commodore M Nayem Hasan.

Chief of Army General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Navy Chief Vice Admiral Zahir Uddin Ahmed and Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division Lt General Abdul Wadud were present at the ceremony among others.

The President observed the parade of smartly turned out contingent of Air Force men led by Group Captain M Quamrul Islam.

Later the President signed on the visitor's book.

Its just a recognition, an award given for exceptional service. In India its given to Airforce squadrons.
