Fifth joint antiterrorist exercises Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) "Peace Mission - 2010" opened in the Monday at the Army Training Ground Kazakhstan Matybulak in Zhambyl region (south-east of the country).
The exercise will be attended by about 5,000 troops of SCO member states (China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan). Will involve more than 300 pieces of military equipment, more than 50 airplanes and helicopters from Kazakhstan, China and Russia. In addition to the troops in the operation involved units of MOE and the Interior Ministry troops in Kazakhstan.
On the Russian side in the exercises involve more than one thousand soldiers 21-th separate infantry brigade (Orenburg region), about 130 armored vehicles (tanks, self-propelled guns and infantry fighting vehicles), more than 100 vehicles, the air of suhoputchikov will support 10 aircraft (Sukhoi Su-24, Su-25 attack and transport helicopters Mi-8).
The exercises will be held for 17 days. The active phase of the exercises scheduled for September 24. To monitor the progress of the joint anti-terrorist operation at the landfill "Matybulak" will include the Minister of Defence of the SCO member states, as well as defense ministers of Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
On Friday, September 10, in Alma-Ata held a military-political consultations Chiefs defense ministers of SCO member states. The consultation proposals were developed on the application of forces of SCO member states in the settlement of a conditional crisis. Consultations resulted in the signing of a joint operational directive Chiefs of Staff on the preparation and conduct of joint anti-terrorist operation.
Since the founding of the SCO member countries have held several joint military exercises under the title "Peace Mission". The first exercises were conducted in August 2003 (not part of Uzbekistan): The first phase was carried out in Kazakhstan, the second - in China. In August 2005, the territory of Russia (the city of Chebarkul Chelyabinsk region) were held joint exercises of the armed forces of China and Russia, exercises within the SCO framework were held in 2007.
