Awareness of money laundering laws stressed
LAHORE: Awareness should be created among businessmen regarding Anti Money Laundering Ordinance (AMLO), 2007 to equip them with better business skills and control money laundering, said the speakers at a briefing session on Money Laundering and Pakistan for Business Persons on Saturday. The session was organised by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT). Former Punjab governor Shahid Hamid said there was a need to create awareness among the business community and police officials about money laundering laws so that misuse of the law could be checked. He said it was mandatory for the signatories of the United Nations Convention against the Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, 1988 to implement the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). According to the FATF recommendations, financial institutions should not keep anonymous accounts or accounts in obviously fictitious names. staff report
