But a new video reveals you may not be getting all the health benefits you could from avocados.
The key, it seems, is in how you remove the fruit from its skin.
Created by the American Chemical Society, experts there explain the part of an avocado with the most nutrients is the darker green part just beneath the skin.
They therefore go on to show the best way to cut and peel the fruit to get the maximum health benefit:

In a new video, experts reveal how to get the most health benefits from an avocado. First, cut vertically all the way round the pip of the avocado - and then twist both sides to separate
Then remove the pip from one half of the avocado by hacking it with a knife and then twisting it - and cut the two halves into four quarters
Finally, instead of digging in with a spoon, peel the skin from the flesh. If the avocado is ripe, it should come off smoothly
Step 1: Cut vertically all the way round the pip of the avocado.
Step 2: Twist both sides to separate
Step 3: Remove the pip from one half of the avocado by hacking it with a knife and then twisting it
Step 4: Cut the two halves into four quarters
Step 5: Instead of digging in with a spoon, peel the skin from the flesh. If the avocado is ripe, it should come off smoothly.
