BERNAMA - Australian Defence Ministry Launches Cyber Warfare Centre

CANBERRA, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The Australian Defence ministry has launched a new cyber warfare centre in Canberra on Friday, China's Xinhua news agency reported.

Defence Minister John Faulkner said the opening of the Cyber Security Operations Centre was a major development in the nation's fight against cyber threats.

"The establishment of the Cyber Security Operations Centre within the Defence Signals Directorate is a major step in meeting the government's 2009 Defence White Paper commitment to provide comprehensive understanding of the cyber threat," Faulkner said in a statement on Friday.

He said the Centre is a key part of a national cyber security initiative set by government.

He also said Cyber attacks on government and critical infrastructure constitute a real threat to Australia's national interest.

Hopefully china will stop trying to hack our military computers now.
