The Australian Defense Force will evaluate the Iron Fist Active Protection System (APS) developed by Elbit Systems’ IMI on the Boxer armored vehicle, Brig. Greg McGlone, the Director General of Armored Fighting Vehicles in the Australian Army, said at the International Armored vehicles 2019 conference in London last week.

According to Defense Update, Australia plans to contract Rheinmetall to integrate Iron Fist on the Lance turrets being used on the 121 of the Block II (improved reconnaissance vehicles) Australia is buying under the Land 400 Phase 2 program.

McGlone said the Iron Fist was the only mature APS that meets the Boxer’s weight requirement. According to the report, Rheinmetall offered its own active protection system – the ADS – but the Australians requested the company to evaluate the scope of integration of the Iron Fist – Light,
