Knight's Armament Company unveiled its Light Assault Machine Gun (LAMG), which is chambered for the 6.5 mm Creedmoore (CM) cartridge, at this year's Association of the US Army symposium, held in Washington, DC, from 8 to 10 October.
The weapon is understood to weigh about 14 lb (6.4 kg) unloaded and have a cyclic rate of fire in the 550-575 rds/min range. The latter feature is intended to increase the accuracy of the weapon and conserve ammunition.
In March this year it was reported that US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) had adopted the 6.5 mm CM cartridge after completing its Precision Intermediate Caliber study. Jane's understands that USSOCOM has not yet ordered this latest offering from Knight's Armament Company and that there is still some fine-tuning left to do with the weapon, in particular when it comes to its desired cyclic rate of fire.
The 6.5 mm CM LAMG is fitted with a telescopic buttstock and lengths of MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails on top of the receiver and as well as on the top, left, right, and bottom sides of the handguard.
