I find this to be a very weak argument against US. If you remove a burden from someone's shoulders, what need is there to know his history? Or are you saying that we should have recognized that the ME must always be ruled by dictators, hopefully benevolent but the peoples are willing to live under malevolent ones? History can often be that burden. Same for traditions and customs. If you mean that we should have recognized that tribal instincts usually trumps other allegiances, then yes, I have no problems saying we are guilty of that. However, this means the burden of achieving and maintaining a peaceful and prosperous country falls upon those tribal leaders, correct? The errors we made does not erase those centuries of tribal customs, folklore, traditions, understandings, and relationships. Cannot erase is more like it. Scorn US. Make fun of our ways. Openly insult US. Ultimately, we do not care of those things. But what we do care is
HOW you maintain your society once the dictatorship is removed from you so you can start all over again, hopefully with a benevolent dictator if you wish. Just as you judge US based upon our mistakes while we were there, so will the world judge you as you destroy your own country.

When you invite us (not US) into the region, you gave us (not US) the latitude to make business there. Remember, it was your leaders who invited us (not US) to help you lift yourselves out of the dark ages and into modernity. It was your leaderships who invited us (not US) into the region to make alliances against who you believed to be foes, even when sometimes you are your own enemies.
And even a bigger point, the dictator ship was imposed by no other than western powers...
That is absurd. Saddam Hussein got to power in Iraq through Syrian Baathists who believed in socialism -- foreign ideas.

Did they petitioned Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait? This is another weak argument. If the Iraqis were capable of 'asking' foreigners to remove the dictatorship, then surely they must have been strong enough to make troubles for said dictatorship in the first place. Strong enough to give them that latitude if not remove the dictator themselves. But if you want to inject the will of the Iraqi people into this debate, then I have equal right to inject that same will into the invasion of Kuwait. So did the Iraqis petitioned Saddam Hussein to invade Kuwait?
The point here is that it is usually the misfortune of an oppressed people to suffer not only the dictator but also the consequences of his ambitions when they failed. In the past, one of those consequences is another dictatorship except usually the new ruler is not of their own. The new ruler was also sometimes even more cruel and oppressive. The country's natural resources were looted to benefit far away peoples. The country and the people were incorporated into a political alliance not of their own seeking, as in member of an empire.
None of those things happened to the Iraqis. So if Iraq falls apart between Iran and al-Qaeda, it will be the Iraqis who is to blame. If Iraq falls under Iranian control, it will be the Shia allegiance, not US, who is to blame.
