I really miss the time when all the western medias were slamming India like hell over the crappy CWG preparation. There were reports almost in every English news channel ridiculing, mocking and criticiziing Indian for their incompetence in hosting big sport event.
Many Indian members here must be greatly traumatized by that CWG episode, they seem to have been suffering a mental breakdown and still haven't recovered yet. And I refer to this phenomenon as post-CWG syndrome, which as per my observation, is quite common in this forum.
One of the most typical symptoms of post-CWG syndrome is runnig down the ongoing Guangzhou Aisan Games with no good causes, including spreading fake news about Indian athlete winning gold medal, reproaching China over small but finished and functional facility, accusing China of conspiring to stop India from winning horse race, etc.
Oh well, let us not forget this one, accusing China of treating Taiwan unfairly, even though they can't find any credible report on this, not even from a Taiwanese media.
I really admire the cheekiness of some Indians, salute to your mighty cheekiness.
You can call it anything you want. Considering that we live in a free and open society - we give loonies leeway to hold and express their opinion without fear of reprisal.
Taiwan was kicked out of olympics membership a long time ago, they were later allowed to join any sports held under control of olympic councils, i.e. Olimpics, Asian games, only if they agree to new terms under the One China policy demanded by PRC.
An agreement was signed many decades ago, possibly before some of you guys were even born yet, under which Taiwan team must be joined under the name of Chinese Taipei, and only the Olympic Anthem will be played if they get gold medal. This arrangement was adhered to in many past olympics and Asian Games, so why should someone bring poltics into Sports by breaking the agreement?
I just read that Taiwan which is forced to participate as "Chinese Taipei" by China was not allowed to fly its flag or have its anthem sung after it won the gold in a tennis event. Is this true? If yes, do people here think it is fair?
On 25 October 1971, Resolution 2758 was passed by the UN General Assembly, which "decides to restore all its rights to the People's Republic of China and to recognize the representatives of its Government as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations, and to expel forthwith the representatives of Chiang Kai-shek from the place which they unlawfully occupy at the United Nations and in all the organizations related to it." Multiple attempts by the Republic of China to rejoin the UN, no longer to represent all of China but just the people of the territories it governs, have not made it past committee, largely due to diplomatic maneuvering by the PRC, which claims Resolution 2758 has settled the matter.
There - thanks. I have my answer. So this was not forced down Taiwan's throat. Simple enough.
no one holds a gun to their head and says they must play sports.
Military experts estimate that the PLA currently has more than 1,600 missiles aimed at the island.
But recent media reports have said the People's Liberation Army may boost the number of short-range ballistic and cruise missiles facing Taiwan to 1,960 before the year's end.
