When compared to China, India often ends up a miserable second. But not for a majority of the world's top minds surveyed by a respected US magazine - India was either distinctly ahead or tied with China, not trailing. But the best had the worst closely behind. The survey showed India and China's
neighbour Pakistan coming in third on a list of the "single biggest threat to peace in 2011", beaten to the top slot by Iran and Middle East.

The future belongs to Asia it seems, for good or bad.

The survey was conducted by Foreign Policy, the journal of the Carnegie Endowment. The magazine first chose its 100 top minds from all over the world and then surveyed them on current global issues. Billionaires Warren Buffet and Bill Gates came in joint first for popularising philanthropy.

National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon and former Infosys boss Nandan Nilenkani are there from India.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came in eighth on the list of non-US leaders with the maximum global impact in 2011. The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, topped the table.:cheesy:

Each expert surveyed - around two-thirds of the 100 featured - was also asked to choose between India and China.

Sixteen of them chose India and another refused to pick saying the future belonged to both.

A typical response from the Indophiles was that of economic historian Niall Ferguson, "If we are just betting on who overtakes the US first in terms of GDP, (it's going to be) China. But as an investor, India. I prefer the tortoise to the hare."

That's a new take on the rivalry between the two Asian giants so far subjected to kitschy comparisons and take offs on Ang Lee's Oscar-winning film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

"China today, India in 20 years," said Fareed Zakaria, the Indian born editor at large of Time magazine and anchor of a hugely popular TV show GPS on CNN.

"India," said Mohamed Elbaradei, former chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

China on its own rustled up 10 votes. Among them was Pakistani writer of the most authoritative primer on the Taliban who has achieved unparalleled celebrity after 9/11 - Ahmed Rashid.

Well, no comment on the artcle, but it is interesting to see what is happenning here.

One Indian member started a China VS India by posting an article which is definitely playing down China. Then we got two other Indian members warning about a future SINO- INDIAN war of internet warriors. Indians just can be the bad guy and the good guy at the same time.

get ready for another SINO- INDIAN war of internet warriors.lol

If there is gonna be any war, it is started by your own man. We won't start such a stupid thread, but we are entitled to reply if such thread is started by others. You either stop your man from posting such crap, or stop yourself from complaining if we reply.

.
Who are these 100 people in the survey?

Why such a small sample size... do you think a handful of experts would have predicted the Credit crunch...

Anyway, it looks like the OP did a hit-and-run, so maybe it is best not to bother.

we acctually bored with your response .... what do you do is either to take the toilet issue or the IQ issue.. and then your pakistani friends come up in your support with kashmir song.....

thats the fate of these kinds of threads...
I would like to suggest my fellow Indians no need to discuss this issue here :hitwall::hitwall:

IQ issue may be nosense, but at least toilet issue is something concrete to discuss. And by the way, toilet is not the only issue we always talk about, there are other issues such as poverty, starvation, illiteracy, etc. But toilet issue is certainly the one with the most dramatic effect, I believe that is why the toilt issue impresses you the most.

You are right with this one, that is why we seldom started similar threads, because it is wrong to do so.

I would like to suggest my fellow Indians no need to discuss this issue here :hitwall::hitwall:

A mistake has been made by openning such a thread, so you should suggest your fellows not to post it in the first place.

.
Well what India vs China? If the discussion is happening on a global basis what's wrong on PDF?Can't there be discussion in peace? It's not versus,it's a kind of comparison that also interests the global agencies and experts.
The discussion can be also be carried out peacefully.

It was also on CNN.
Dude, those 100 experts include Bill Gates,Carlos Slim and Steve Jobs(Apple).
However their votes were kept a secret.

.
it would be much much better if the thread starter can provide the origioal data or report of the servey. from an article which was reinterpreted by someone else, not too much information can be extracted and analyzied. everyone can have their own interpretation from the same data or report.

on CNN? what was that? you mean this?

so what is this?
Among them was Pakistani writer of the most authoritative primer on the Taliban who has achieved unparalleled celebrity after 9/11 - Ahmed Rashid.

BTW, i'm really interested in who exactly that "100 top minds" were except these 4 (Ahmed Rashid, Bill Gates, Carlos Slim and Steve Jobs).
