An increase in the already-severe countrywide power outage Thursday night left citizens upset in numerous cities, Geo News reported, just days after former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi claimed that his government had added 10,000 megawatts (MWs) of electricity to the national grid.

Abbasi, who was addressing a news conference about energy projects, had then gone on to assert that there had been no load-shedding in 90 percent of the areas across the country from 6 PM to 4 AM.

However, consistent power outages were reported in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Quetta, prompting the question as to where did the 10,000 MW of electricity disappear?

As night fell, multiple neighbourhoods in Karachi — including Kharadar, Liaquatabad, Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, and Gulistan-e-Johar's Block 19 — faced power cuts, while a similar pattern of intermittent power outages was experienced in Quetta.

On the other hand, Rawalpindi faced an unbearable eight-hour-long duration of load-shedding.

Power outages continued in the aforementioned areas through Fajr prayers, inconveniencing the citizens.

Must be short circuit to the ground, some point in Pakistan must have 10,000 Mw going through it and glowing red hot.

And there is also another hydro powerplant down for repairs which was advised to be shut down for repairs earlier but PML(N) had pressurized to keep it operational till May 31st. Now it's had additional damage and has been shut for repairs.

There has definitely been some improvement in generation in the power sector as loadshedding has reduced but still happening,

extremely important to fix power transmission and distribution, the Discos [distribution companies] who supply to the end-user with outdated faulty power lines and feeders. T & D is real problem which needs to be resolved

Power generation has increased but the demand also has gone upwards. The demand stands at 23500-24000 MW whereas supply at max is 20300-21500 MW. The huge delay in start of full operations for 3 RLNG plants Balloki, Bhikki and Haveli Bahadur Shah, technical faults in Neelum Jhelum hydropower plant [to get fully operational] have been one of the reasons. Once its teething pronblems are resolved it would vaastgly imporve the situation. The heavily criticized by liberal mafia, like Sahiwal, Hub and Bin Qasim coal plants are doing bulk of the generation as base load plants.

If our liberal mafia starts writing about the damage done in 90s by Peoples Party, leaving their bogeyman Gen. Zia for awhile. The one who corrupted and destroyed this sector was Mr. Zardari. In 1989/90 handover of KESC [a reputed organization at that time] to WAPDA and 1994 power policy to stop govt. from building dams and power plants, shifting the onus to private producers in name of investment did a long-term damage which is catastrophic.

I would still give this govt. some credit to improve the situation like introducing solar and wind energy, reducing dependence on furnace oil to less cost LNG and coal, chinese tech coal plants but lot needs to be done especially in the transmission and distribution system, and building dams which is now a necessity.
