ARY Film Festival: A Green Signal For Pakistani Filmmakers
The film festival was one of its kind, receiving 400 entries from around the world.

The ARY Digital Network played host to a much awaited and highly anticipated event, The ARY Film Festival (AFF). A unique event in itself that focused on promoting filmmakers not only in Pakistan, but from 33 different countries around the world.
AFF officially commenced on the 4th of May, following a press conference that took place a day before. The conference introduced the jury and facilitated panel discussions which would take place once the screenings began. Gracing the AFF Press Meet were Humayun Saeed, Nadeem Baig, Wajahat Rauf, Syed Noor, Nadeem Mandviwala. Rafay Mehmood was also present at the conference while Maria Memon facilitated the panel discussions at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Karachi.
The event was hosted by Faysal Qureshi, but at the closing ceremony and awards night, he was joined by Zakhm co-star Madiha Imam.

33 films were selected from a total of 400 entries received from all over the world, by the jury that consisted of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Khalil Nanitalwala, Marilyn Agrelo, Ram Kishore Parcha, John Gann, Andy Merkin, Jack McDonald, Amna Khan and Anwar Maqsood. The selected entries were showcased at Cinepax in Ocean Mall, Karachi. During the course of the festival, seminars and panel discussions were also held, highlighting factors affecting the success of cinema in Pakistan.

The closing event for the film festival was a star studded affair. Not only was the ceremony attended by top celebrities, it also showcased amazing performances by Sheema Kirmani, Sanam Marvi and Hamza Qawwal, along with a stand-up comedy act by social media star Danish Ali.

AFF also held special screenings of internationally acclaimed films, such as Maheen Zia’s‘Lyari Notes’, ‘Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velazquez Story’ contributed by the American Film Showcase and Anjum Shehzad’s ‘Mah e Mir’. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's 'Song of Lahore'also premiered at the festival.

The closing ceremony presented awards in the following categories:
Award for Best Story Feature Film was given to ‘Choora Ek Pratha’ and Best Short Film (Silver Category) to ‘Amrita & I’. Both films were screened in collaboration with the Delhi International Film Festival.
The award for Best Short Documentary went to ‘Masters of the Sky’, whereas award forBest Director Short Documentary was given to Ali Ijaz for ‘Pangolins in Peril’. 'In search of America’ won the award for Best Short Film (Gold Category).

The Best Documentary Feature award was given to ‘K2 & The Invisible Footmen’ and Maheen Zia’s ‘Lyari Notes’ won the Red Category Excellence in Documentary Feature.
The Purple Category Excellence in Documentary Feature was given to Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy for her film ‘Song of Lahore’ while Anjum Shehzad’s ‘Mah e Mir’ won the award for Best Film – Feature.
