Army to get 3G anti-tank missiles to match China

Y-20 is copied from An-70 which we never had access to
J-20 is a clone of F-22 which even UK doesn;'t have access to
J-31 is copied from F-35, again China doesn't have access to

anything in China is a direct copy, happier?

guess what? I encourage indians to all develop such attitude. this make them blind which is always good.

Answer is here

The thing we can buy from other easily , then their is not need to do R&D , only those projects which we cant buy from other countries are get priority to do R&D

There is no 4th gen ATGM, 3rd gen is the latest tech. India is specifically buying the handheld version, whose range should be less than the vehicle mounted version. For the vehicle mounted version, we have our own Nag, which has full fire and forget capability, and is among the most advanced 3rd gen ones in the world. Unfortunately, we have not been able to make a hand held variant of it.

Spike is 4th Gen as per Wiki, now i m no expert but its definitely more advanced from Javlin...:what:

I have a feeling that wiki is wrong on this. I can't think of what constitutes a 4th gen anti tank missile, and I can't see how Spike is a full generation ahead of javelin. This wiki article describes the various generations, and lists spike as third gen:

Anti-tank missile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hopefully, somebody who knows better can clarify.

maybe the latest variants of Spike like Spike NLOS which has a range of 25km can be termed as 4th Gen as i don't think any other missile provide such range...

but what does it matter whether its 3rd gen or 4th gen but the main question is if were planning to go for Spikes then why the hell did we ordered Konkurs from Russia...:hitwall:

Does @peaceful really think china designs its own weapons?

J-7 is a copy of Mig-21
J-8 is a copy of Su-15
J-10 is a copy of Lavi
J-11 is a copy of Su-27
J-15 is a copy of Su-33/T-10K
J-20 and J-31 are both derived from stolen US F-35 technology

- helicopters >

Z-8 is a copy of SA-321
Z-9 is a copy of SA-365
Z-11 is a copy of AS-350
Z-10 and Z-19 are again based on various technologies stolen and bought from abroad. Not to mention
similarity in looks with AW-129/T-129 and engine tech designed by Pratt & Whitney (US)

Transport aircraft ->
Y-5 is a copy of An-2
Y-7 is a copy of An-24/An-26
Y-8 is a copy of An-12
Y-9 is based on Y-8's tech derived from An-12
Y-20 is based on IL-76 with Soviet-designed engines

The bomber Xian H-6 is a copy of Tu-16 Badger from Tupolev.

And if you go down into the other segments of weapons, guns, missiles, rockets, vehicles etc.,
you'll see that 90-95% of china's military hardware is a foreign design with indigenous paint scheme
and indigenous name.

Plz add JH-7 copy of Jaguar and Rolls Royce engine

An excellent work i was thinking about a article about it, we should start a thread where we prove this reverse engineering process.

PLA Copied Smerch MBRL, Predator drone UAV, Global Hawk UAV, BMPs, Light tanks, artillery from south Africa GN-45, t-darter missiles, radars and Glide bombs from south africa and the list goes on and on on...... Tell me one product which is free from allegation.

i think the present ones are second generation.that is why.

Yes, but not outdated by current requirements. One has to keep it painted with laser designator for target interception, and very hard to fool by countermeasures.

Army to get 3G anti-tank missiles to match China - The New Indian Express

Army to get 3G anti-tank missiles to match China
By N C Bipindra - NEW DELHI 28th December 2012 08:57 AM
In a bid to match China, the Indian Army is scouting for third-generation Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) worth over `5,000 crore for its infantry and mechanised units.

The ATGM is an effective weapon in terrains where there are threats from enemy tanks and the Army’s initial requirement is about 2,000 launchers and 24,000 missiles to arm its 356 infantry units.

China already possesses ‘Green Arrow’ and ‘Red Arrow’ ATGMs. Pakistan, though, has only second-generation missiles such as the Baktar Shikan, said to be based on a Chinese missile, and the French Eryx.

“This procurement will be completed by the end of the 12th plan period in 2017,” Army sources told Express here. Though the Army is authorised to hold over 81,000 ATGMs of different ranges that are key to stopping the progress of enemy’s armoured vehicles and tanks during battles, it is said to have only half of that quantity at present, making this procurement critical.

It has now tried out the shoulder-fired Israeli ‘Spike’ missiles in the field and the ‘staff evaluation’ of the trial report is underway. India tested the 2.5-km-range Israeli system despite the US offering its FGM-148 Javelin missiles.

The Israeli offer is said to be ahead in the race due to their readiness to share its technology with the Indian government-owned missile manufacturer, the Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), to produce them domestically to meet the Army’s future needs. The US is willing to sell the missile to India, but not to share the technology.

At present, the Army has French two-km-range Milan missiles and Russian four-km Konkurs missiles, both second generation ATGMS. Both are Semi Automatic Command Line of Sight wire-guided missiles that require the soldier to sight the target and guide the weapon, which affects accuracy.

“Now, the Army wants to graduate to third-generation missiles that can lock on to the target once the soldier sights it through the weapon system,” an Army officer said.

“Once the infantry units are equipped with the third-generation ATGMs, we will also equip the 50-odd Mechanised Infantry units with the selected weapon system,” he said.

Why the Hell Civilian Writers dont compare the Penetrating Power of ATGMS against Armourd Systems ??

Why do we compare our Selves with a Copy Cat Nation. ...

Just Compare the penetrating power of Red/Green arrow against Armour based on RhA APS/Kevlar Plates/DU Layering...and it will be AN ultimate Mockery.

All those 100000 ATGMs r 2nd Gen n Nag still hasn't got wire guidance thats why we went for Konkurs from Russia...
but i really don't get it when we were already planning to get Spikes than why the hell did we ordered 10000 konkurs in first place...:hitwall:

Why would Nag need inferior wire guidance when It already uses far superior and 3rd gen. IIR and MMW seeker providing fire and forget ability along with a smokeless motor providing stealth... absent on 2nd gen. Konkurs.

Don't know whether IIR n MMW r classified as 3rd gen tech becoz 3rd gen is all about fire n forget but DRDO did failed to develop Wire Guidance system for Nag as per Wiki...

Go and read about IIR seeker.
Wire Guidance was not intended for Nag the project was all about a fire and forget ability missile.

Only If you read carefully what the same Wikipedia page says about Fire and forget ability of Nag.

You are being naive. china does not have access to the plane but stole few terabytes which they use. China is built in copying.
