India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has invited responses by 20 December to its global request for information (RFI) to develop and build 1,770 multipurpose Future Ready Combat Vehicles (FRCVs) for the Indian Army (IA) to replace the service’s ageing fleet of T-72 main battle tanks (MBTs).
Issued on 8 November the RFI invites original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to provide details of the proposed 50-tonne tracked FRCV, which will not only be the base platform for the IA’s MBT, but also for a number of other armoured vehicles.
The latter are expected to include self-propelled howitzers, bridge laying tanks, mine trawl (Roller) tanks, self-propelled air defence guns, mobile artillery observation posts, engineering reconnaissance vehicles, armoured ambulances, and armoured recovery vehicles.
