Army clinches National Beach Wrestling Championship Title

PESHAWAR, July 31 (APP): With three gold and one silver medal in four different weights Pakistan Army clinched the overall trophy of the 2nd National Beach Wrestling Championship played here at Qayyum Sports Complex on Saturday. Sports Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Aqil Shah was the chief guest on this occasion who gave away medals, trophies and cash prizes to the position holders. Rana Sarwar, Secretary of the Pakistan Kabaddi, Pakistan Sports Board Representative and large number of spectators were also present.


The teams comprising prominent wrestlers who represented Pakistan in various international outings showed their class by grabbing three gold medals and a silver by securing 39 points in four different weight categories.
Pakistan Railways got second position by winning one gold medal and three bronze medals and recorded 34 points, followed by Punjab with three silver medals and got 33 points.
Islamabad in their first appearance grabbed three bronze medals by scoring 30 points, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa took two bronze medals by securing 28 points remained at 5th position while Sindh, which remained modeless, got sixth position by securing 24 points only.
The teams of Wapda and Police, which were stuck near Mardan Inter-Change due to heavy rain and closer of all roads to provincial capital Peshawar, reached to Islamabad last night safely, Ch. Asghar Secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation informed APP.
He said that the safety of the players is more important than participation of the team in the national events that is why we asked both Wapda and Police teams to go back to Islamabad.

Results:
65kg:
Haider Ali of Pakistan Army won gold medal, followed by Qamar Abbas of Punjab, Muhammad Rohal of Islamabad and Muhammad Nazir of Railways.

75kg:
Ghulam Hussain of Army, followed by Usman of Punjab with silver medals and Niamatullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Shabir Hussain of Railways with bronze medals.

85kg:
Abdul Hameed of Railways upset Abdul Rauf of Army to win gold medal, followed by Khan Muhammad and Safiullah.

85kg:
Tehsilullah of Army won gold medal, followed by Muhammad Bilal of Punjab and Muhammad Taj and Muhammad Jalal of Islamabad. Muhammad Anwar, Arshad Sattar, Ch. Khalid Hassan and Muhammad Salim supervised the contests.
