Army chief to honour 89 Armoured Regiment

The Indian Army on Friday said that Chief of the Army Staff General Bikram Singh will present the “Standard” to 89 Armoured Regiment on Saturday at a function here.

A mounted parade with armoured vehicles will be the highlight of this event at Namkum Military Station during the colour presentation ceremony.

The Army said the 89 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1980.

The regiment has fought insurgency in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir and also took part in ‘Operation Vijay’, ‘Parakram’ and ‘Varuna’ proving its mettle in professionalism.

The regiment, under the aegis of South Western Army Command, since its arrival in the region has been working towards the welfare of soldiers, war widows of Jharkhand, spreading awareness about the strength of the Indian Army among civil populace.

They have also organised welfare activities in remote areas of Jharkhand and provided aid to civil authorities.

For its 33 years of meritorious service to the nation, the regiment will be bestowed with presentation of standard on behalf of the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, the President of India.

The same will be presented by the Chief of the Army Staff on behalf of the President.

The event will be witnessed by a host of civil and army dignitaries.

A felicitation ceremony for war widows and ex-servicemen of Jharkhand will also be organised on this occasion.
