Arjun mk2 will be on time because DRDO has been working on these technologies for long time and now its time for them to integrate all these techs and test them on ground in real conditions.Where it says April? News report says July'2011 and that's an estimate. Slipping timelines are common things in R&D projects.
So my expectation is, it will be out by year end and even if it came out, there is no guarantee that Indian Army won't reject it under some new excuses or revised requirements. So, lets see how much numbers IA actually orders by year end otherwise, it will be all wasted efforts by people working on this project.
Well said, i think we should go for arjun mk3 as FMBT instead of going for an altogether different design for FMBT and this is what experts from Germany, Israel etc. said when they came to India last year but i don't know why IA is so against Arjun ??But there may be a demand to reduce the weight to 50 tonnes to improve mobility. This can be achieved to some extent by applying nanotechnology in reducing the thickness of armors while retaining their strength,” he said.
I mean if they don't like mk1, smarter thing is to wait and see the mk2, and then decide for mk3, they have already filled the gap with more orders of T90 and they are going ahead with the up-gradation plan for T72. Not to mention, they haven't come up with a design for FMBT yet.
Why they are ignoring the fact that their is reason why all the countries have followed the trend of newer verrsion of the same design in MBTs. I think IA should stop acting stubborn and just ask their counterparts once again about the approach for our FMBT program instead of committing a new mistake for which DRDO will be criticized in the future instead of IA.
