Arihant follow-on submarine

. . . . . .
If I am not wrong then 2nd sub is almost ready for trails while 3rd and 4th are being constructed...

Hull of Arihant II & III have already been constructed.

are you talking about 3rd and 4th subs?? Afaik 2nd is being ready for trails(still will take 1 years or so though)

.
Wrong first 3 submarines are Arihant class submarines of 6000 tonnes whose capabilities are comparable to Akula I according to wikipedia after that they will be succeeded by the Arihant follow-on submarine which according to wikipedia the Government of India approved the construction of the follow-on to the Arihant class submarine in mid 2008. The submarines will be twice the size of Arihant that means of displacement of about 12000 tonnes comparable to Akula II which currentely India has leased from Russia. So 4th and 5th or probably 6th and more Arihant which are to be constructed will be the larger size Arihant follow-on submarine of twice in size and displacement than the current Arihant class nuclear submarines.

Nope!!!!!!!!!! India has ordered for only two nuke Arihant class sub(order reduced from 3 to 2) and has started fabrication of hull no 3 and 4 which will be almost double of Arihant class(confusion in terms of capability and size). When 2 Arihant follow on class will be operational then 1st and 2nd boats will be converted in SSGN. 2 nuke boats are more than sufficient for nuke deterrent.

Sir, AFAIK the Arihant class will compose of 3 ships- the first (Arihant) is already undergoing sea trails, the 2nd hull is in advanced stages of construction and work on the 3rd hull commenced last year.

The Arihant class will be followed by another class of far larger SSBN and work on these will begin sometime between 2018 and 2020.

All of this info I have got from a friend with connections in the IN.

This series would start with S-5.

We are missing S-4 here.

Forgive me, the Arihant class will feature FOUR ships. Work on S-4 will commence later this calendar year.

After 2016 (when S-2 will be commisioned) the remaining 2 ships (S-3 and S-4) will be commasioned in yearly intervals thereafter so by 2018 all 4 ships will be in service and hence work on the larger SSBN class can begin (S-5 onwards) from 2018, which correlates with what I have been told.

Buddy please I have requested in the past many times and doing it again. I am just a kid in this forum aged hardly 24 years old. So please don't call me sir. I feel shyness in discussing anything in this kind of situation.

Regarding military sources my cousin and uncle are serving in military and my uncle is rated in higher ups circle. I have high regard for their information but I believe in only what I can find on my own. Because military men can't share critical data with civilians no matter how close they are. so there is high degree of chance that these kind of passed information are bogus almost all the time. And if you go through the posts of mine in the past you will get the credible links for sure regarding no of boats.

On the topic 1st ship of Arihant class is going for sea trials in some time, 2nd ship is also going for 1st set of trails in the end of year most probably. 3rd and 4th (both)boats which are much larger than first 2 boats are already being fabricated(hull). They were supposed to be launched in 13 and 14 but due to late manufacturing schedule their induction will happen around 18 to 20 instead of before 15. So in total 4 boats are different stages currently. And for near future they provide more than sufficient power for what is required for nuke deterrence. And this is very basic reason India had planned well in advance that its nuke fleet of SSN, SSGN and SSBN will be almost like twins. That will reduce the cost of maintaining the fleet + commonality in almost every aspect. I am again saying that India is going for 2 Akula SSN, 2 Arihant class SSGN, 2 follow on Arihant class SSBN, 7 indigenous SSN(it will be be identical to Arihant class boat.)

I have a few questions:
1. Is there any movie showing the inside of Arihant?
2. How much percent of the sub comes from Russia?

Thanks!
