Argentine President’s Tweet Mocks Chinese Accent During Official Visit
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner mimicked the Chinese accent in a tweet, replacing r’s with l’s, as she met with Chinese President Xi Jinping during a visit to raise investment in the recession-hit South American economy.

“Did they only come for lice and petloleum?” Fernandez wrote in Spanish on her Twitter account in reference to 1,000 businessmen who attended a conference where she spoke. A minute later, she wrote “sorry, the levels of ridiculousness and absurdity are so high they can only be digested with humor.”

Chinese are like Americans. They have a thick skin.

Jealousy has to be earned.

Chinese are pretty indifferent to other people's opinions and obnoxious behavior.

When other people behave badly, it only proves the correctness of Chinese civilization.

However, if you have something legitimate to say, Chinese will listen carefully. If you publish a rational white paper on an important topic, Chinese will study and discuss it in detail.

For example, if you have proof that the inequality of wealth distribution in China is greater than other countries then it will garner a lot of attention among Chinese. In comparison, Fernandez is merely a puff in the wind.

It's only Cantonese people (like myself) that have a problem with the "r" sound, since the "r" sound does not exist in Cantonese.

However, the "r" sound is very common in Mandarin so they don't have problems with it.

Regardless, business is business, if Argentina can provide good returns they will continue to get investment.

How about words with 'Th' like 'Think' 'Thread'? I hear it Sink / Sread. Is it Cantonese or Mandarin?

Cantonese does not have the "th" or "sh" sound, or the "r" sound.

So "three" would be pronounced as "fee".

Mandarin on the other hand has the "r" sound and the "sh" sound, and other sounds found in English. That's why it's easier for Mandarin speakers to learn English, and for foreigners to learn Mandarin.

It's very difficult for foreigners to learn Cantonese.

But the real secret dialect is Wenzhounese, even other Chinese can't understand it.

as much as I hate De Kirchner it's kinda funny.
it's not racist but I guess some Chinese or Asians in general would throw a hissy fit

most of you can't pronounce R's right... It's nothing to be ashamed of :D
:bounce::bounce::bounce:
I'm sure foreigners and especially white people sound funny trying to speak Mandarin.

It's literally a Cantonese problem.

Mandarin speakers have no problem with the "r" sound, neither do Japanese. In fact the "r" sound is very common in both these languages.

The reason is that Cantonese were the first Chinese to move overseas, because Cantonese lived right on the southern coastline of China. That's why the Cantonese accent is the most recognized, however it is very different from a Mandarin one.

you might be right, but i do know for a fact Japanese and Koreans have a hard time.

As a representative and head of a nation, that is extremely poor 3rd class behavior. You would expect an ordinary uneducated Argentinian to spew some racist remark like that, but definitely not the leader of an entire nation.

That is of course, assuming this story is even true. Anglo-Saxon media loves to lie and create propaganda, so take everything they say with a grain of salt.
