I must have misunderstood then.

Kardes @Aeronaut maybe able to give you a better explanation of the above verses but this I can say with complete confidence that Jinnah Sahib isn't being talked about here !

Plus Iqbal died before the creation of Pakistan & Jinnah Sahib died a year after Pakistan's creation !

I must have misunderstood then.

Iqbal is talking in much general terms. You have to understand that Iqbal was deeply moved by the defeat of the Ottomans. He supported Turks very much. If i am to pin this particular verse on one 'entity', it would have to be the loss of the institution of Caliphate.

Iqbal passed away a decade before Jinnah, so this poem is not a tribute to Mr Jinnah.
