Pakistani, Olympian Abdul Hafeez has a total of 61 international medals with 12 Bronze, 15 Silver and 34 Golds - and i am damn sure that if you are a Pakistani, the odds are that you haven't even heard of him.

Lets not blame the govt this time, because we are the govt and we are indeed doing a pathetic job towards killing our heroes be it Dr Abdul Salam ---- many others ---- Olympian Abdul Hafeez and so on.

Why is Pakistani nation indifferent towards its heroes and why don't we appreciate their championship and the great name and fame they bring to our otherwise scary country? - Why should anyone stand up for our country if this nation is good at being indifferent towards its own heros?

There is no need to compare with India..rather than unnecessary try to make a flame bet...But the purpose of your thread is good...A nation thrives when it respects its citizens...And i can see that we south Asian nations are always lag in this area...Apart from cricketers and Bollyood people no one is really respected as much like Cricketer and movie star...

Milkha Singh is a popular athlete hence all those books and movies. There are plenty of athletes and freedom fighters who got nothing from their nation.

PS - Wasn't Abdul Khaliq in Milkha Singh's movie ???

Can anyone post the order of Civilian Awards in Pakistan.

You have given one example, but there are many more examples of athletes, particularly hockey and cricket teams, that have been showered with gifts and awards after winning honors for Pakistan.

I dont think it is right to compare picking up one incident of both nations and compare...... There are similar case in India too..... If some one gets recognition in India pakistan is cricketers......

Who cares right?

Few months ago I saw some Olympian selling his medals for some cash at a junkyard/kabardi ...

Great artists .. like Mehdi Hassan etc died in poverty...

And not a single damn was given... THIS IS PAKISTAN.

They might be the lucky ones with 'ooper tak tauluqaat'.

The medias

The medias does play an important role. Even though,India and Pakistan isn't so different in this aspect, thd condition in India may be comparitively a little better, because our media ecosystem is much flourished than Pakistan's. We have a bigger share of English speaking media, and they usually will fill their columns with everything they find worthy. Hence even local talents will find fame.

I believe Indians are more Patriotic about their country compared with us Pakistanis.

When it comes to talking, we Pakistanis can talk up a storm, but when the time comes to deliver we disappear.

Pakistanis are ALL TALK and no ACTION.

Indians actually deliver.

Actually, I think its being torn between religion and nationalism that manifests itself as what you say in Pakistan...

Its important to take steps to make people aware/remember the heroes of the past which will be an inspiration for future generations.

Abdul khaliq deserves atleast a stadium named after him.

Start with renaming the Gaddafi stadium.
