Arabian Sea cyclone likely to hit Thatta, Badin

KARACHI: The intensifying Arabian Sea cyclone is likely to hit the coastal areas of southern Sindh in the next 24 hours causing torrential rains with windstorms.

Met department, Lahore Centre’s director, Shaukat Ali Awan told that the city of Karachi was still 540-kilometre away from this cyclone’s range and there was possibility of any hazard over there.

He said, “This was a fourth grade cyclone in respect of intensity, which is called tropical cyclone.” Its waves were as high as 27 feet and the wind speed at 80-kilometre per hour, while it was likely to further intensify in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Shaukat Awan told that this tropical cyclone moving easterly was heading towards Indian Gujrat state, while the photographs taken from the Met department’s satellite image showed signs of hovering clouds in the southern Sindh coastal areas, especially Thatta, Badin and Mithi, which might cause heavy downpours in the next 24 hours.

He told that the waves of such cyclones 3/4 times in the Bay of Bengal and once in the Arabian Sea were a normal feature during June-November.
