In Iran's capital, the leader of Friday prayers cautioned India over its sudden downgrading of Indian-administered Kashmir, the Hindu-majority nation's only Muslim-majority region.

Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader and Tehran's Friday prayer leader, told hundreds of worshippers that India's revocation of disputed Kashmir's special autonomous status was "an ugly move."

The semiofficial Fars News Agency said he cautioned India not to provoke a confrontation with Muslims.

Kashmir is divided between India and Pakistan and is claimed by both. India's actions have inflamed tensions with Pakistan.

Iran's semiofficial Tasnim News Agency quoted a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry as saying that Iran expects India and Pakistan to opt for peaceful methods and dialogue in dealing with the dispute.

Iran's official statement was more cautious but it seems behind the scenes there is discomfort at the way India has behaved, clear path for Pakistan to build the narrative going further

I agree. This whole revoluntinery instinct of stand by the underdog still exists in Iran. In 1979 I used to get a Iranian magazine which talked of freedom for Palestine, Kashmir and uniting all the Muslim world. Even took up the cudgel for Black Muslims in USA.

The problem with Iran is they have so badly played the game of geo-politics that frankly having them supporting you is penalty point. In the Pakistani politics that is as much a liability as being validated by Ahmedi priest.

Meanwhile UAE. All the more reason for me to trust Iran more than the Arabs.

Why isnt it "official" official?

I would disagree, we must do our utmost to make sure that the Kashmir oppression and ethnic cleansing gets the same coverage as the Palestinian cause.

Iran has always been steadfast about the Palestinians, whether their methods have been ideal is another discussion. So I would welcome their support to the Kashmiri people.

. .
Why isnt it "official" official?

I believe this was said by an advisor to Khamenei but not exactly put out as an official statement. But it does show that Iranian leadership, around Khamenei at least, is not happy at the brutality by India there in the last week.

Meanwhile UAE. All the more reason for me to trust Iran more than the Arabs.

To be honest the UAE and the other city states have long ceased to be interested in any ‘Muslim’ cause or anything about oppression. Especially after their questionable interference in Yemen, Somalia, Sudan, Syria etc etc

All the UAE leadership is currently concerned about is making sure they are the premier ‘entertainment’ and finance hub for the region, so attracting plenty of Indian businessmen will be crucial to their plans.

Neither is OIC

.
What happened in UAE?

UAE said that Kashmir is an internal matter of India.

Neither is OIC

Unfortunately the OIC is not a capable body. If it were, it would have achieved the purpose for which it was formed: to restore rights of Palestine and Palestinians.

You swing just like our govt :tsk:

We are still waiting for Iran's reply on those indians who held Irani passport and were protected by Iran for india!

Perhaps we ought to trust neither then.

You can not blame others for our own doings....

We have been changing stand everytime....

WE are the stronger nation in terms of weapons and army...yet we dont think as one! We dont think for our own interest ...the country is in disaster due to this lack of thinking...Masses follow like sheep without thinking on their own! We cant put our blame on others!

UAE is like every other country who will protect its interest above all.....and like any other nation doesnt need to answer to anyone else's fault!

We still havent got a reply why Iran was doing india's bidding? Why was Iran giving out "official" passport for india's spy? Why was it safe heaven for indians for a decade? Do we not count as neighbours?

Them passing this are trying to win their way back ONLY AFTER india kicked them!

You expect individual countries to do / pass pamphlets/ announcement / something but not as a collective known as OIC?

Perhaps we ought to trust neither then
We need to build ourselves on our own national interest!

There is a reason we are helping UAE....we owe them...that cant be denied! Much more than we do for them! They have delivered more than necessary even to our corrupts! Just like Turk First lady giving her necklace was misused...we have our leaders to ask for who gave how much and where it went?!

If you are referring to the Yemen war, then good. I am glad we are not their partners in crime.

If you are referring to their business interests then be it. I remember some western politician or diplomat, maybe Donald Trump, said that the Dubai premier would tell the West about how liberal they are and give their women rights. And meanwhile on news you see that the premier's wife ran away, her daughter ran away. Sadist people.

We will be putting our national interests first the day we act and think to ourselves: "What on earth are we doing providing military co-operation to a country which said that Kashmir is the internal issue of India."
