Guys,

Need advice about the fluid.

We just received the components for custom build pc for my better half. All parts are here and waiting to be assembled in the basement but she could not decide about which fluid to select.

There are a lot of options to choose from but each fluid has different properties and reviews are all over the place so it is pretty confusing for us and only experience can help. The idea is that she will build it herself, I’ll just provide help where she needs but she loses points each time I help. She has built systems previously but never with custom water cooling.

What we want is a coloured fluid (green, blue or orange) with no growth or minimal growth, no clogging and no galvanic corrosion. Also it can support a lot of thermal load from motherboard since we want to cool VRMs and two M2 drives, two GPUs in SLI (two Titan RTX with NVlink) so that we can play minesweeper on it at 120 fps :p:

A total power load will be around 1000 watt so she selected Corsair AX1600i so it will provide some head room for overclocking.

I have build pc both with air and water cooling (normal off the self water cooling solutions like NZXT Kraken or Corsair H150i) but it has been a long time since I dabbled with custom water cooling.

I think this is sufficient info but if you need, I can provide more info about components in case it helps

The end result will be something like this but it is not our system. Our case is Phanteks Enthoo Elite

Even the die hard custom cooling enthusiasts quarrel on this. You won't find one best solution for this. What it comes down to is that there are a lot of claims out there by various liquid manufacturers and many claims are simply marketing gimmicks. There are tons of YT channels that address your question in detail. I would suggest to have a look at JayzTwoCents. He is an authority on this subject in my opinion.

I am not a big fan of liquid cooling due to leakage risks and maintenance. The same for AIO.

Yup it is pretty confusing. I, myself, pretty happy with air cooling from Noctua DH15 for CPU while GPUs come with their own fans. But I'm more about functional system and got a bit boring since I reduced playing video games ... since a long time.

I also prefer Noctua, but I understand your argument. There is also be quiet! which I like. There is no denying that a properly setup custom cooling puts every other cooling solution to dirt.

Best to use deionised water, which can be bought from a garage, and some biocide.

Use coloured tubing for any effects.

sigh... first world problems..

..

On a serious note:

Jayz2cents/ Bitwit / Pauls Hardware (those are popular YouTube channels which may help)

I tried to convince her. I already have a deioniser / distiller in my garage and we can add growth and rust inhibitors. But she insists on going with glass tubings with some "boutique fluid" which is beyond me so I gave up...After all it is neither my money nor my call. I let her sweat with measuring & bending all the tubings. After all, she has set a goal to make some overclocking record in her community.

Already solved and got the best fluid from the nearest pc shop. Now just a heat gun is required. Our old heat gun got lost somewhere during shifting

Remind me of the days when I used to build custom PC's for gaming. Now I hardly care and just use surface laptop.
