An interesting text by a retired Turkish diplomat about the deep anti-westernism in Turkey, not only in society but even in the most "western", educated and cosmopolitan sections of the country, in the army, parties and bureaucracy.
The diplomat's epilogue is characteristic:....
"As a result, today our country is moving further and further away from the West in general and from Europe in particular. As it moves away from the West, it also moves away from the West's core values of democracy, law and individual liberties. Unfortunately, those who suffer from this and those who will see it further are the secular sections. I wish they knew this and changed their rhetoric. Unfortunately, I see nothing to hope for in this direction in the speech of the opposition parties which I would like to believe that their secular aspects prevail."
