The MARS-L radar offered by Litak-Tak appears to be identical to the one of the same name offered by the Ukrainian company Aerotechnica. Source: Litak-Tak
Angola's land-based air defences have been upgraded by the Lithuanian company Litak-Tak, the Ukrainian Independent News Portal (UINP) reported on 20 November.
It said the company has upgraded the African country's S-125 (SA-3 Goa) surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems, and supplied three P-180ML and three Mars-L radars.
This presumably refers to the P-18ML upgrade for the P-18 'Spoon Rest D' early warning radar offered by Litak-Tak. The P-18 is typically used to support S-125 batteries.
The MARS-L is a new mobile L-band radar that Litak-Tak says can be used for air traffic control, low-altitude surveillance, and target acquisition and designation for SAM systems.
The company's S-125 upgrade is called the S-125-ML and comes with the upgraded SNR-125-ML target engagement radar and the new UNK-ML command post. Litak-Tak says the resulting system automates many processes, has a far shorter response time and firing cycle, is more resistant to jamming, and has an expanded engagement envelope from 30.5 km to 37 km.
The UINP said that Litak-Tak was set up by two Ukrainians who previously worked for the Ukrainian company Aerotechnica.
Aerotechnica unveiled the MARS-L radar in 2013 and offers similar upgrades for legacy Soviet-era S-125 SAM systems.
