The ancient Indian text of Sushruta mentions the use of opium, wine and Indian hemp.
The medieval Indian text Bhoj Prabandh states that the Indian king Raja Bhoj of Malva who ruled in the 11th century
underwent a cranial operation under the anesthetic influence of a plant.
